This Project was a large challenge we all undertook, using familiar tools such as Unreal Engine in such a different way than all of us had been used to, we adapted to all these changes as a team and communicated well during all of it.
I feel after reflecting on the project that some improvements could be made with my level design approaches, these would include giving myself more time to plan and create diagrams of my levels which would aid in the overall designing of the levels in engine. During our development stage we did have a few issues with the levels not being what everyone wanted which did hinder the time we had to create newer ones, and left others having to pick up on extra work which did cause some delays in other areas which I feel I could have avoided given more time with the project.
During the project I did feel I learnt a few things about design levels for VR and Mobile games, such as Optimisation skills, this was in turn due to the lower poly art style we wanted to use which aided in creating a more optimised user experience. The team communication was the key to our success and how we got so far in this project, having such talented members that would dedicate a large majority of their time and effort into this project created a fulfilling working environment which I feel boosted productivity. In terms of teamwork and communication skills we had weekly discord calls to discuss what was happening during each week as well as personal group study sessions, allowing for most of us to just talk while working on the project which led to many problems being solved instantly with everyone’s knowledge and skills right there now rather than waiting days for any response from group members.
If I could change anything after finishing this project it would be time management on my end, this was a key downfall for me when creating levels and not allowing me during the beginning of the project to join calls for long periods of time, this was picked up on by myself near the latter half of the project and improved on but if done at the beginning would have lead to a more successful project in reflection.
