J.H. - Temple Pathway (Cut Content)

With the village well underway it was time to start a block out of the next area of the game where the player would be travelling, this was both for a something different for me to work on but also so we could attempt tp play more of the game and be able to do a full playthrough of it soon and work out what works for the game and what we can start to scrap in terms of both mechanics and design choices.


I started off with a pathway the player would take, we discussed in a meeting that we would like the player to travel through a portal system from level to level, this would be a smooth way in VR to allow us to use level streaming and for us to mask the level loading and unloading to not break flow or the player immersion.


The area was to be a small pathway heading to a large building Infront of them, the idea to begin with was for the player to have no enemies to fight in this area so they could rest from the enemies they would have fought at the beginning of the game. The design idea was to mirror the pathway leading to the first portal, pillars on each side of the player and some forest like area then opening up to a large courtyard scene, broken pillars and stone littering the area and overgrown vegetation to show that the area was abandoned.


During the development of this area I had planned for the player to walk to the door of the temple and have a portal at the closed doors of the temple. Sadly during the development of this temple area and pathway we had decided that we wanted to move in a different direction, so the idea was put on hold for a small amount of time before it was eventually scrapped from the project, although the ideas we had for this area live in the new temple area created by Luke.
