Glove

Before starting to model me and Luke Shingleton wanted to get some concepts drawn up of models that I would be working on in the game. We already knew what the type of game we were going to be working on, so we went and got some reference images to give us ideas on what to make.

I first started to concept up some gloves that would replace the default unreal engine hands. We all agreed that the unreal hands wouldn’t fit the game, so I got some reference images of medieval style gloves that would be cool for the player to wear in the game but still fit with the style.

Once I had gathered a few concepts and was still looking around on the internet at others I decided on having leather gloves instead of doing sort of knight gloves as it wouldn’t fit the style of the game since there is no knight type characters and having you as the only one didn’t make much sense. Instead, it was decided the character would be someone training in magic and sword skills making the leather gloves fit better with the theme.

I started by making a sketch of a hand that I could copy and paste multiple times allowing me to test multiple different gloves and saving myself time from having to re draw a hand every time. After I had my hand sketch, I started by sketching multiple different gloves liking parts from some gloves but not liking parts from others.

After finishing two sketches of gloves Luke had created a concept for our magic system being crystals that the player can store on their glove. This would allow the player to grab the crystals of the glove and use them to cast the spells in the game. I took his concept and made the 3rd glove design.

After creating the 3rd glove design I showed all three of the designs to my team to get their input on the designs to decide what they liked and didn’t like, we decided that we liked the straps and zipper on the first glove and the crystals stored along the glove by a strap. We decided that glove two would be scrapped so I created the 4th and final design which has a combination of the 1st and 3rd together into one which would be the glove that I will later model.

Sword

Luke had created two sword concepts and gave them to me and asked for my input on the swords designs and which I would prefer to make that will fit the style of the game we are trying to make.

I decided that we would use the three reasons: The swords design looked cool and unique something that will help the game stand out.

The style of the weapon would fit well in a magical game.

And finally, is that I saw something that could be a cool possibility for this sword the other sword he had made would not be able to do, In the sword there is a small slot and I thought that this could be a cool way of adding to the players arsenal of weapons. The concept I brought up after seeing the design was that the player can remove a crystal from their hand and place it into their sword allowing to have the powers of one of the elemental crystals.

In the end we went with the second sword design for these reasons.

I then created some concepts for the sword for what it could be when a crystal has been slotted into it. Once a crystal is placed into the sword it would gain the power of it and I was concepting on how it would look before and after with the sword getting cracks with emissive light coming out of these cracks.

Bow

I Had taken the idea of the sword and the crystal further by looking at other weapons that could be added into the game that can benefit the same way. It will work in a similar way that once imbued with a crystal would have an emissive glow from cracks in the weapon except that the string on the bow would also glow the colour of the crystal. This would mean that every arrow that you fire out of the bow would have a special trait such as fire or ice damage same as the sword would act once a crystal has been placed inside it.
